Job Description


Our client in the Ardmore area has an immediate opening for a part-time RN.

Performs and documents Sisters' assessments on admission and on a continuing basis.

Monitors and documents changes in health status through continuing assessment.

Develops, updates and implements the care plan: educates certified nursing assistants on best approaches.

Administers and documents medications as ordered and observes and documents reactions: charts reasons/outcomes when PRN meds are given. Implements orders as appropriate.

Observes, records and reports to supervisor conditions and reactions to drugs, treatments and significant incidents.

Encourages patients to participate in prescribed therapies, dietary regimen and activity program as appropriate.

Directs and supervises C.N.A.s and LPN's and works closely with them in providing care. Assures C.N.A.s and LPN's have appropriate information to provide care.

Maintains confidentiality of all of the patients medical data.

Follows and enforces back safety precautions for lifting and moving residents and equipment.

Assists with or performs ADL's for the patients, including showers and toileting.

Responds to all patients needs in an expeditious manner.

Administers benzodiazepines, psycho tropic drugs after trying non-pharmaceutical approaches.

Implements rehabilitative nursing techniques and teaches appropriate patients/staff rehabilitative techniques in order to maximize independence and functional abilities.

Offers emotional support to patients, e.g. coping with chronic illness, during grieving, and working with cognitively impaired Sisters.

Organizes work day according to accepted routines and prioritizes activities.

Participates in in-service programs by attending scheduled in-services, suggesting in-service topics, teaching other staff on a formal and informal basis.

Maintains a safe and comfortable environment for patients, staff and visitors.

Is courteous, respectful and neat in appearance. Reports to work as scheduled and on time.

May be required to perform other related duties for which the individual is qualified, including all C.N.A. and LPN functions.

Implements restorative nursing goals: educates C.N.A.'s on approach; monitors progress; reports changes to rehab coordinator.

Completes 24 hour nursing report.

Completes behavior documentation.

Documents in a patient's medical record all pertinent information as it relates to changes in Sister's condition.

Takes and charts vital signs.

Follows physician's order for completion of treatments, after assessing a patient's condition.

Makes recommendations/requests to attending physician (use of doctor's book).

Daily, is aware of scheduled consultants in/out of facility and reason for visit: shares this information with her team.

Reads and follows through on all physician/consultant recommendations, including scheduling labs, x-rays, follow up appointments.

Participation in fire and elopement drills.

Completion of all required documentation on a daily basis, including incident/accident forms.

Mentor C.N.A./LPN's to take initiative: develop a team.

All other job duties as assigned by the Director of Nursing/Administrator.

Reports equipment and maintenance issues.

Follows facility procedures for ordering/discontinuing/reordering medication in appropriate time frame.

Takes verbal orders from physicians and documents same based on nursing standards.

Assures each patient is maintained at her highest level of functioning.

Immediately, reports all concerns related to mishandling of patients, inappropriate approaches to patients, including tone, attitude and body language.

Verbally counsels C.N.A.'s and LPN's immediately when actions/situations occur which do not follow guidelines.

Assures C.N.A.'s and LPN's assist with transporting patients to/from events/activities.

Assures med and treatment cart is clean and stocked for next shift, including emptying the trash.

Assures each patient is properly dressed on a daily basis; changed when clothes are soiled; reports needs to Life Coordinator.

Refusal of care issues are documented and discussed with Director of Nursing.

Provides supplements to patients, seeing they don�t eat a meal or consumes less than 50%.

Participates as an active member in the Safety Committee.

  Job Requirements  


Must be a graduate of an accredited school of nursing with a current licensure from the state of Pennsylvania as a Registered Professional Nurse. Seeks and attends educational offerings to maintain necessary clinical skills and meet license requirements.

Minimum of one year RN experience in a Skilled, Long Term Care or Hospital setting.

Prior experience with mature and geriatric population preferred. Has interest and understanding of the special needs of the older adult.

Computer Skills: Proficient in Microsoft Word and Outlook; skilled in Excel and Power Point.

Experience and understanding of not-for-profit religious organizations.

Highly skilled written and oral communication skills; builder of relationships.

Attentive to details; anticipates needs and acts immediately and prudently.
