Job Description

Process Control Technician
Columbus, OH
Direct Hire

This position is responsible for monitoring, interpreting and reacting to information provided by field instrumentation and process controls in the manufacture of adhesives. The process control technician will continuously monitor separate processes occurring simultaneously via one or more computer screens and make decisions based on information provided to him/her via computer and/or alarm panels. This person will direct union personnel in support of these processes and work closely with Process Engineers.

Fundamental Job Tasks
1.Manipulate computer data/screens to facilitate monitoring continuous processing feedback from multiple computer screens and/or panels regarding progress of computer controlled manufacturing on multiple production vessels/lines.
2.Interpret and make control decisions based on above feedback.
3.Enter commands, using the computer terminal, and activate controls on computer and peripheral equipment to integrate and operate manufacturing equipment.
4.Provide directions to plant operators to perform manual operations such as raw material loading, alarm checks, sampling, packaging, etc. in support of automated manufacturing processes. Work with operators on optimizing condenser, reactor, vapor line and piping cleanouts.
5.Provide feedback and process improvement suggestions to process engineers and/or chemists regarding processes and standardization of like products.
6.Provide feedback and process improvement suggestions to controls technician and/or process engineers regarding potential changes/upgrades to programming parameters. May write and implement program changes following written company procedures regarding such changes. Assist process engineering with pilot to plant floor scale-ups.
7.Provide regular feedback to production management regarding such items as plant operator performance, schedule compliance, yield, first pass rates, etc.
8.Using SPC techniques review, analyze and report on such conditions as production versus production standards, up-time, mean time between failure and overall operating effectiveness. Measure real-time/run-time data analysis of batches using JMP.
9.Verify process improvements and help to optimize existing processes – time temperature, speeds, etc.

Other Job Tasks
1.Manage and distribute both lot number control and batch sheet management.
2.Track, record and input inventory usage based on actual run data provided by instrumentation, operating systems and plant operators. Reconcile discrepancies between quantities provided by plant operators versus computer feedback. Within the corporate inventory management system, manipulate raw material, WIP and finished goods inventory for those processes under his/her direction.
3.Provide regular feedback to production management.
4.Responsible for schedule/standard adherence.

Supervisory Responsibility
1.Provides direction but no supervision to plant floor personnel.
2.Provide input to operators’ supervisors for review purposes.
3.Review and approve quality items.

Knowledge and Skills
Minimum requirements include an Associate’s degree in a technical field with courses that include studies in chemistry and computer science. Familiarity with statistical process controls and computer programming would be beneficial.

Working Conditions
90% of time will be spent in control room monitoring automated processes. On occasion, the PCT will be required to work overtime or an alternate shift.
