Laboratory Technician



Job Description:


Gather and prepare materials and specimens for testing. Test materials with a variety of analytical equipment in order to determine metallurgical, metallographic, chemical or powder properties. Collect and report test results.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS -
1Collect and prepare materials and test specimens.
2.Test materials and test specimens on a variety of analytical equipment.
3.Calculate, tabulate and report testing results.

ADDITIONAL FUNCTIONS
1Maintain laboratory equipment.
2.Assist in analysis of new equipment or test procedures.
3.Maintain a clean and safe work area; perform other similar related duties as required.

Job Requirements

JOB QUALIFICATIONS -
1.High school grad, GED -- Associates Degree preferred.
2.Strong mathematical and written skills.
3.Personal computer skills, particularly with spreadsheets are a plus.
4.Development of specific skills significant to specific position such as metallography, chemical technology, physical testing, etc. is necessary.
5.Equivalent education or experience may be substituted for formal education.

•Tinius Olsen Compaction Press
•ToniTechnik Compaction Press
•Zwick/Roell Tensile test machine
•Furnaces – Abbott ceramic belt furnace, tube furnaces, oil bath quench furnace, tempering ovens
•Leco Carbon/Sulfur/Nitrogen/Hydrogen analyzers
•Drill press
•Micrometers
•Rockwell Hardness (A, B, C, F) apparatus
•Charpy Impact tester
•Tinius Olsen Universal Tester – used for 3-point bend tests (Transverse rupture strength)
•Servo-hydraulic axial fatigue testers
•XRF / OE spectrometers to measure chemistry
•Sieves to measure particle size distribution
