Job Description

Work directly for a Central New Jersey area leading provider of supply chain management services to the personal care and household products industries including R&D, Package Design & Sourcing, Manufacturing & Filling and Packaging & Assembly.

SUMMARY DESCRIPTION
The Chemist is responsible for supporting the Research and Development l Laboratory activities for projects as directed for the purpose of achieving corporate goals.

SUPERVISION RECEIVED
Under the direct supervision of the Manager, R&D

SUPERVISION EXERCISED
Intern, Lab Technician, Associate Chemist, Chemist

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily.
Primary responsibilities are:
•Develop and prepare personal care and/or color products
•Understand the needs and restrictions from the customer and develop formulas accordingly
•Ability to color match all formula types
•Prepare Specifications for all products developed
•Maintain laboratory notebook, including critical processing details and observations
•Multi-task to handle 10-20 projects a week, while providing technical support to other chemists
•Monitor batch shelf life stability
•Understand customer restriction and regulations
•Calibrate and validate all lab equipment
•Perform other duties as needed or assigned

Job Requirements

DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required for his/her position.
•Education: Bachelor Degree in Science, Chemistry preferred
•Certifications: None
•Experience:
•3 years lab/formulation experience
•Knowledge of Access, Excel, Word, CTFA and AS400
•Attention to detail, organization and multi-tasking skills
•Technical knowledge of chemicals and their functionality to develop and prepare personal care and color products
•Knowledge and use of Brookfield viscometers, pH meter, pychnometers, mixers, hotplates
•Ability to understand processing procedures, fill weights, formula cost implications, ingredient lists, and OTC products in order to be well rounded in the capacity of formulation skills
•Knowledge of OTC guidelines/monographs
•Global formulation skills
•Ability to color match all formula types

TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT USED
Ability to utilize a computer, telephone, fax and copy machine as well as other general office equipment. Strong computer skills are required.

Ability to utilize Brookfield viscometers, pH meters, pychnometers, mixers and hotplates
