A Driller/Driller Helper will assist the crew chief in solid stem and hollow stem auger drilling techniques.

The assistant will help move, set up and operate drilling rigs and related equipment to drill holes for geotechnical exploration test borings. Site investigation/geotechnical drilling is done to determine the soil characteristics on construction sites.

Supervision Received: Works independently on broad projects under direction of a Project Engineer.
Supervision Exercised: No direct supervisory duties required, but provides direction to associates on a project basis or supervises direct reports.

Examples of Duties: (Any one position may not include all of the duties listed, nor do the listed examples include all
that may be found in this job.)
 Expedite field supplies.
 Perform duties at multiple job sites.
 Communicate job site conditions with engineering staff.
 Assure that all drilling functions, including quality control, quality assurance and verification are performed in
accordance with the standard drilling methods, project specifications and other contract documents.
 Perform yard duties at direction of supervisor.
 Assist in measuring test boring locations
 Load and unload trucks.
 Locate borings as needed.
 Smoothly and quickly connect and disconnect the lower parts of the drill pipe when it is being lowered into and
raised from the hole.
 Collect split spoon samples to be analyzed.
 Clean and maintain equipment.
 Rock Coring and Rock Core recovery
 Help move drilling rig and equipment from site to site and set up.
 Dig and clean mud pits and drains.
 Assist with well development and pumping tests.
 Operate equipment such as pumps for air, water and mud, and equipment and tools used to correct problems in
drilled holes caused by mechanical breakdowns or by harmful natural conditions.
 Carry out minor maintenance and repairs, including lubrication and cleaning.
 Fill out drilling logs; write daily report logs as needed.
 Perform other duties as assigned

  Job Requirements  

Skills and Abilities

Experience in auger, mud rotary and NX rock coring operating various types of rotary drill rigs for split spoon soil sampling and installation of monitoring wells. Must be familiar with highway construction specifications and have previous field experience.

Physical Requirements:
Primary work location is in the field and will require candidate to stand for extended periods. Ability to safely and successfully perform the essential job functions consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards, including meeting qualitative and/or quantitative productivity standards.

Ability to maintain regular, punctual attendance consistent with the ADA, FMLA and other federal, state and local standards.

Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs. Due to the nature of these projects, non-local applicants must be willing to relocate temporarily (6-7 months) or
long term. Temporary relocation may involve rotations to return home.

Minimum Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or related experience required. CDL and 40 hour OSHA Training are preferred but not required.

Experience: One to three years experience in Civil/Geotechnical Field Services needed. Reliable, on-time, team player, strong communication skills, ability to monitor and enforce quality control standards and specifications, read blueprints, quality minded and client focused.

Desirable: Associates Degree in Civil Engineering Technology or certification in related field. Knowledge and
understanding of Civil/Geotechnical Engineering Services for OH, IN, PA, WV.
