Work for a Union County, NJ leading diversified manufacturer of quality assured food products for the food-service industry in the Northeast United States

Summary - Batch Maker

The batch maker will be responsible for the manufacturing of bulk food products to be filled and packed as required by the daily production schedule. This operation is to be performed keeping safety as a primary objective and following established GMP, Safety, Regulatory and procedures and policies.

Job Duties:

Includes, but not limited to the following:
-Read and interpret formulas to determine product specifications, processing information, and technical information
-Responsible for recording production and test data for each food product batch, to include: ingredients, lot numbers, temperatures, mixing speeds, and test results
-Monitoring and regulating gauges, recording instruments, flow meters, and thermometers to correctly adjust the addition of raw materials, mixing temperatures, mixing speeds, etc. to maintain the quality of the product and ensure safe and efficient operations
-Operating and tending machines to mix or blend a wide variety of food products to include: edible oils, dressings, margarines, spreads, shortenings, cooking cherries, vinegars, cooking wines, etc. for manufacture
-Patrolling the work area to detect any leaks, equipment malfunctions, and operating conditions and reporting any deficiencies to the Production Supervisor and Maintenance Supervisor.
-Examining the product samples during production in order to evaluate necessary in-process testing requirements
-Taking samples of in-process products to provide to the Quality Assurance Laboratory for testing
-Using testing equipment to test samples of products to ensure they are in compliance with specifications and document results in required log books and/or batch records; reporting any deviations in results to the Quality Assurance Manager.
-Modifying manufacturing directives, as necessary, with written authorization from the Quality Assurance Department, by adjusting mixing time cycles and/or changes to ingredients
-Responsible for having knowledge of transfer valves, pumps, etc. which transfer bulk products from manufacturing to run tanks
-Cleaning and sanitizing all equipment necessary for the manufacturing of food products

  Job Requirements  

Requirements:

-Experience operating in a fast paced, ready to eat food facility a plus
-Ability to be self-guided and motivated to operate independently
-Strong multi-tasking skills
-Ability to work well under pressure

Education and/or Experience:

-High school diploma or General Education Degree (GED)
-One to three months related experience and/or training
Enabling Skills

-Bi-Lingual (English/Spanish) preferred

Reasoning Ability:
-Strong interpersonal skills, ability to communicate well with others
-Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out detailed written and/or oral instructions
-Ability to deal with problems involving a few concrete variables in standardized situations
Physical Demands
Plant operations environment and hours. Able to manage through urgent situations. The job is performed in a manufacturing plant environment. Exposure to loud noises, dust, dirt, heat, sparks, oil, and smoke may occur. Personal protective equipment (safety glasses, steel toed shoes, appropriate clothing, hard hat) is required in manufacturing plants. Activities include extended periods of walking and standing, using hands and fingers. Capable of lifting 75 lbs. Must be able to reach, stretch, bend, kneel, and crouch. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, color vision, and peripheral vision.
